Pelikan International Corporation Berhad (“Pelikan International”) is fully committed to grow the Pelikan business and brand across the globe. We promise to continue working hard to promote Pelikan in all corners of the world while ensuring growth and achieving good profitability for the Company.

In 2009, Pelikan International performed within expectations as global economic crisis continued to negatively impact our operations worldwide, particularly in Europe. The Group’s revenue declined by 6.7% from RM1.29 billion as of 31 December 2008 to RM1.20 billion in 2009. Profit before taxation for financial year ended 31 December 2009 however improved slightly to RM50 million due to better control of costs and working capital management. By November 2009, the Group announced the acquisition of Herlitz AG ("Herlitz") - a reputable 100 year old brand headquartered in Berlin, Germany which produces papeterie, office stationery and school supplies in Europe. This acquisition will allow greater cross selling opportunities on products for both Pelikan and Herlitz and further growth by leveraging on respective strengths and assets in innovation, quality and distribution.

Since our debut listing on 8 April 2005, we have been focused on three major strategies of growth for the Group’s international operations:

Re-consolidation of the Pelikan brand and companies divested in the 1990’s.
Expansion of the Pelikan business into new emerging markets.
On-going cost cutting measures throughout the Group.

We are pleased to announce that as of January 2009, we have completed our mission to reconsolidate Pelikan's global brands and businesses. Our policies and strategies implemented in the past year have paid off and we hope that overtime, we will be able to reap the benefits from these long-term strategic plans. We are also pleased that the acquisition of Herlitz was completed in March 2010.
