"Eternal Ice" takes first place
The Special Edition Eternal Ice from the long-established fountain pen manufacturer Pelikan has won this year's Watches, Jewellery & Pens Award.
The Watches, Jewellery & Pens Award was awarded for the first time in 2006 by the Arabian Watches & Jewellery Magazine and Pen Magazine. Since then, the aim of the award has been the development of the region's industrial standards and the assessment of the best brand representatives in their respective categories by independent experts from the Middle East.
In 2010 Pelikan Middle East & Africa (PMEA) took part in the exclusive award ceremony for the first time and presented the jury with three premium fountain-pens, all of which are only available in limited editions: Maki-e Seaworld in the "Best Craftsmanship" category, Fire in the "Best Theme" category and Hanging Gardens of Babylon in the "Best Historical Symbol" category. All three products were chosen among the top 3 finalists in their respective categories, and the Limited Edition Hanging Gardens of Babylon was even chosen as winner of its class.
In 2011, three different Pelikan writing instruments were shortlisted again: the Souverän green o' green in the "Best Historical Symbol" category, the Special Edition Eternal Ice in the “Best Theme” category, and the Shake Pen Twist from the brand Porsche Design in the "Best Modern and Contemporary Writing Instrument" category. The Porsche Design ball pen is proudly manufactured by Pelikan.
As last year, one of the three shortlisted products made by Pelikan won the prestigious award – the Special Edition "Eternal Ice" achieved the top rating in the "Best Theme" category.
The Eternal Ice series of writing instruments are distinguished by their colour combination of cool pale blue and ice white. In a complex manufacturing process the shaft is first of all elaborately lacquered and polished a number of times, then the broken ice design is applied using laser technology.
The shaft, rings and clips are then coated with palladium. The surface is lacquered and polished repeatedly until it gleams like pure ice. The nib comprises 18-carat gold and is completely covered with rhodium, so that it harmonizes perfectly with the intentionally cool overall impression. The exclusive Eternal Ice series is available as a fountain-pen, rollerball, and ballpoint pen for a limited period of time only.
