The new Maki-e set from Pelikan

Cherry Blossom and Autumn Leaves

This year, Pelikan is presenting its unique Maki-e pen with two new motifs, “Cherry Blossom” and “Autumn Leaves”.

The ornamentation of these two fountain pens has been created using the elaborate chinkin technique, a traditional form of Japanese craftsmanship. The “Cherry Blossom” Maki-e has a barrel and cap adorned with golden blossoms: in the Japanese calendar, the blossoming of the cherry trees indicates the beginning of spring, symbolising beauty, transience and new beginnings.

By contrast, the “Autumn Leaves” Maki-e shows the infinite variety of autumn in Japan. The cap and barrel display intricately worked autumn leaves, which are endowed with a precious plasticity of form by their diverse colorations.

The clip and rings are gold-plated, emphasising the matchless perfection of these highly coveted collector’s pieces. The 18-carat gold nib, written in by hand, affords the writer an exclusive writing experience. The limited edition number and the artist’s signature make each of these writing instruments unmistakably unique.

The exclusive case, made of paulownia wood, ensures that the pens are kept in special climatic conditions, and is thus the ideal repository for them. Each set is accompanied by a certificate and a booklet about the mythology behind Asian symbolism. The “Cherry Blossom” and “Autumn Leaves” motifs are limited to 250 items each worldwide, and are only obtainable as a set, at a price of € 3,100.
