The Pelikan role players

This funny idea is meant to be a supplement to a children's carnival party. Everyone dresses his/her character up, e.g. into a red-haired clown. The gag will come out in the end: When the head is turned to the right, left, downwards or upwards, the character's face will change! Tip: Our easy-to-use download templates offer you many ways of creating individual designs.

You need:

This cutting and drawing template is ready for you to download.

The Pelikan download template, two cardboard rolls in different diameters e.g. a toilet paper roll and a roll for paper towels (Caution: the rolls have to fit into each other easily, it's the only way the easy sliding will work properly, later on!), Pelikan markers Colorella duo, paper in different colors, gold and silver crafting foil, Wonderliners in different colors, glue, a pair of pointed scissors and Pelikan carbon paper.

What to do:

  1. First place the cutting template over the outer cardboard roll with the marks positioned on the edge of the roll. Copy it onto the toilet paper roll by using the Pelikan carbon paper. Then cut out the eyes and the mouth, spare the folding edge along the ears so that they can be folded outwards, later on.
  2. Glue an approx. 6 cm wide red band around the head of the role player (top edge of the roll) Be sure to let about 4 cm of the red band stand out over the edge. Then cut into the paper that is standing out with the pair of pointed scissors. Bend the small strips you created to the outside.

The hair of the role player is made of red paper that has been glued around the roll and then cut into small strips.

The cutting template is placed on the edge of the roll (red arrow) and then the face is copied to the roll.

  1. Then paint the ears, the eyes get eyebrows by painting a fine black line above them, draw a nose and add some freckles. Finally, the "neck" of the role player is painted with a black Wonderliner so that you gain the effect of a smooth junction to the inner roll.
  2. Now glue the bottom template along the edge of the inside roll (kitchen towel roll). Paint the eyes of the role player green and the area where the mouth will be red. Caution: Under the face the roll is colored with black Wonderliner so that you gain the effect of a smooth blend to the other roll here as well.
  3. Finally both rolls are slided into each other. Now your role player is ready to play. Certainly you can invent more characters, if you like.

After having finished both rolls…

…the outer roll is slided over the inner roll. The role player is finished now!

Download template and accessories for the role players

The role players can be painted individually and in many different colors. Our download template might also be of a help to you: the crown and the mustache for the king, the bow-tie and the brim of a hat for the clown.

Designing the face (inner and outer roll) is the same for all role players, only the ouside designing (crown etc.) can be varied. The accessory parts are suitable for a king and a clown.

King

Copy the crown of the king to the golden crafting foil. Cut it out and glue it around the head. Just cut off the foil standing out!
The mustache is made of two parts. Copy the parts to the black colored paper, cut it out and glue it above the mouth.
Use the Wonderliner to draw the eyebrows, the hair and a necklace.

Clown

The hat consists only of a brim. Cut a smaller circle of the size of the toilet paper roll in the center of a paper circle of 50mm in diameter and shove it over the roll. Paint the hat black. Copy the flower onto red colored paper, cut it out and glue it on.
Die Fliege wird ebenfalls auf Tonpapier übertragen, ausgeschnitten, angemalt und festgeklebt.
Also copy the bow-tie to colored paper, cut it out, color it and glue it on. The hair is made of red paper strips, like those of the role player mentioned earlier, by cutting fine strips into a paper band. The hair is glued onto the role underneath the brim.
Finally give him red cheeks with the red Wonderliner.

By pushing on the role, the king starts laughing heartily and even shows us his teeth!

By sliding the outer role of the clown, he starts making jokes and to laugh!

The red hair gives the clown a certain charm. By pushing the roll he even smiles that way!
