Colorful Butterfly

Easter is just around the corner: Now is the right time for our colorful butterfly! By making only small up and down movements, the butterfly will start flying. Thanks to the wooden stick, you can take the colorful butterfly with you everywhere you want and it might even help you on your next Easter egg hunt! It is easy to make and is very helpful for training fine motor skills. However, it's even something for young handicrafters, as there are two different levels of difficulty:

  1. For beginners in crafting (= without frame around the wings)
  2. For crafting professionals (= with colorful frame around the wings)

Hint: Why not combine the colors of the wings with different colored bodies. This way you will get many different butterflies that will create a colorful spring sensation!

This is what you need:

Pelikan download template, Pelikan transparent paper, colored paper, Pelifix glue, wooden stick (e. g.: shashlik skewer) and a pair of scissors.

It's as easy as this:

  1. First of all, you decide on whether you would like to make the simple version without a frame or if you choose to create a butterfly including a colorful frame around the wings.
  2. Without a frame: Trace the outlines of the chosen wings onto the transparent paper and cut them out.
  3. With a frame: Trace the outlines of the frame of the corresponding wings onto the colored paper and cut them out. Then carefully glue both frames onto the transparent paper. After the glue is dry, cut out the wings along the outer edges. This way, the wings are made of transparent paper and automatically receive a solid frame made of colored paper.
  4. Decorate the wings (with or without frame) by gluing colorful strips of transparent paper on them.
  5. Cut both body parts out of the colored paper.

Schematic draft: Attaching the wings
and the holding stick

As shown in the draft, attach the wings to the body by gluing the paper flaps of the wings to the corresponding flaps on the body part. Please mind here to glue the wings on the right side. Attach the shashlik skewer right behind the butterfly's head. Finally, glue the two body parts of the butterfly together.

This is what the colorful butterfly looks like from the side, after having affixed the wings.
