Create your own CD-covers

At this point, Christmas is only around the corner. Those of you still looking for a present will have to start looking sooner than later!

In this edition, Teachers info would like to assist by presenting a special gift idea: Create a CD cover using Pelikan's PLAKA colours. This helps give individual compilations a personal note. The special feature: The CD covers are painted using Pelikan PLAKA colours.

This is how it's done:

  1. Start of by colouring the inside of a CD cover with PLAKA colours.
  2. After the colour has been left to dry, start scraping designs into it using the toothpick. The PLAKA colour does not develop cracks, which makes it perfect for this technique. Words like the ones in our example will have to be scraped backwards (like in a mirror).
  3. Now paint over the designs that were created using the scraper with Pelikan PLAKA colours. In our example, this helps us create the Red balloon, the Green writing and the White stripe. You can of course also experiment and add designs of your own. We will provide further examples towards the end. One more tip: Before scraping the colour, go over the colour with a damp cloth or with a sponge. This softens the colour and makes the scraping easier.
  4. 4. To finish off, the whole inside of the cover can be covered using a different colour. This helps protect our layers of colour. Alternatively a piece of paper cut to the correct size could be used. The measurements are .

The creation process is basically the same for each CD cover. There are however certain variations:

  1. Don't just use one colour for the first coat. Mix many layers of colour before scraping.
  2. For the example on the right side, first the colour Blue was added, designs were scraped and then covered in Yellow and then in bright Green. For the special colour effect, Pelikan PLAKA Gold was used as a border colour.
  3. First a broad Blue stripe was painted in the CD cover. Then writing was added by scraping. Then the area was covered using Green and Yellow PLAKA colour. Then further designs were scraped and eventually covered by the colour Red. In the final step the area was simply covered using White paper.
