Extra tip: The Sitting Sign Smiley

Original idea from Mrs. Lauenstein, Seligenstadt

There are many possibilities of building a sitting circle but the following idea from Mrs. Lauenstein has proved to be very successful:

Description:

Firstly, each group is allocated a facial attribute belonging to the smiley (e.g. table on the right = right eye). Naturally the face must be accommodated to the respective situation in the classroom, i.e., the more groups, the more facial attributes.
As soon a circle has been drawn on the blackboard, the pupils know that they have to sit in a circle. After the circle, the right eye is drawn. Now the children at the table on the right join the circle with their chairs. Bit by bit the smiley and the sitting circle are completed.

Recommendation:

  • If the class is large, it is advisable to allocate a whole row to the right eye for example.
  • To form a semi-circle the form of the circle can be changed to a sickle. Perhaps you can think out your own little drawings to accommodate the sitting arrangements to your own requirements.
