Series Flying Objects

Logo Flugobjekte

2000 years ago, the Chinese have built the first kites. In our series "Flying Objects", we would like to link to this tradition of paper planes. A folded plane is made of a single piece of paper and requires no glue or any other materials. Paper planes, however, can be cut out, painted and equipped with any extras you like.

Paper planes excite students every time anew. This again, provides you the possibility to introduce the element "air" as a subject in class, in a playful way. However, our paper planes are not made for instructional purposes only, but are also great for inbetween.

Colorful Aerial Spinning Top

Our colorful aerial spinning top is fun to look at when it spins smoothly through the air. When dropped from a high distance, like from the top of a staircase, it will turn faster and faster!

This is what you need:

Pelikan download template, a pair of pointed scissors, Pelikan colored pencils, string (about 20 cm long), a big (heavy) pearl and a small pearl, paper glue.

This is how it works:

  1. Download and print out the template on a sheet of paper. Then cut out the template and color it using colored pencils (pic. 1).
  2. Take a pair of scissors and make cuts into the wings along the solid line and fold upwards along the dotted line.
  3. Then lay the string around the center of the colorful aerial spinning top. (pic. 1)
  4. Glue the spinning top together. Thread the small pearl up to the middle of the string and tighten it with a knot (pic2).
  5. Then thread the big pearl onto the other end of the string and make a knot behind it, so it won't slip off (pic. 3).
  6. Now, throw the colorful aerial spinning top high into the air (pic. 4)

Have fun!
